Only individuals and—to some extent—their employers and their unions have a strong
vested interest in individuals’ health. By contrast, most institutions have an interest in health care—either keeping it cheap (insurers) or selling a lot ofit (providers). While this is something ofa caricature, it is true ofthe institutions’ motivations, regardless ofthe often-dedicated people who work within them. Unions and workers, for their part, see health care as an increasingly important benefit—and one that should outlast employment at any single firm. How can we get high-tech employers and unions to lead the charge toward user-driven health care? What tools should they be offering to their employees? What services and data should they be asking for from insurers and providers?

Are we talking health factories, or a new approach that can actually treat diseases and respect the whole person at the same time?
